She isn't responding as well to the meds (prednizone and metronidazole). They are working for her in that they make her feel good, but her body is not absorbing the nutrients she eats.
She keeps food down, eats a ton (more than she ever has) and drinks a lot of water, BUT she is still losing muscle/weight. This last visit she didn't lose weight per se, but she has a lot of fluid in her intestines and her spine is much more pronounced. She also developed a heart murmur.
She does not appear to be in pain or discomfort most of the time. She continues to meet me at the door, she purrs, she interacts and still looks out the window. However, she doesn't play anymore. I think this is because she tires easily.
We had a pretty bad bout of stomache upset the last day and a half - this was due to med changes (less pred and the addition of the metro). Thankfully things have calmed down and she's back to being happy again.
I have been babying the heck out of her. She gets her favorite treat as often as she wants (tuna) and I put one of my sweatshirts in the dryer to heat it up for her to lie on.
I know, I know, I've crossed over into crazy cat lady. But it really isn't inconvenient and it makes her purr.
My next option beyond making her comfortable would be to do more tests and then surgery and/or chemo. My vet and I concur this would not be fair to her; besides the outcome would not prolong her life much longer anyway.
On a lighter note, I said I would try to get photos of the extra dogs while I was in Oklahoma. I think there were three extra dogs but it depends on what you consider a dog. Another black lab, a great dane puppy and a teacup long-haired dachsund. The latter is only kind of a dog.
