"Anytime you think you are a person of power and authority, try ordering someone else's dog around."
Well here I am in beautiful northeastern Oklahoma! I'm animal sitting while some friends are vacationing in Montana.
The guy on the couch is Moose. This is his favorite place to be and he's allowed so I see no reason to argue...he's good at sharing too. Moose is the most expensive of the group - he got parvo and then also broke his leg when he was a puppy. Moose is HUGE. Hence his name.
Next we have Herman - Herman is basically in charge. A really really nice guy, he is very welcoming and gracious. He gets special privledges such as sitting with me upstairs while I'm on the computer. No one else gets to because they jump on the beds and sometimes chew on things. Herman does a good job of keeping everyone else in line.
This is Herman's full sister, Lily. Lily is very very depressed because her mom is gone. She is actually quite inconsolable. Her mom has been gone for over a month and she has been hiding out in the woods. I'm glad I got her in before her dad left. Lily is a bit neurotic and very sensitive, but she's a good girl. She can do whatever she wants to do as far as I'm concerned.
Herman takes care of Lily and doesn't let anyone bother her when she's sad (except for me, of course, he knows I'm trying to cheer her up).
This is Hudson, named after the lake she was found near. Hudson is a little scrappy and very mischevious. We get along very well but she doesn't like strangers at all (I am not a stranger, she used to sleep with me when she was a puppy).
This is Spot. Spot is a tad on the slow side but he has a heart of gold. Spot loves everyone and everyone loves Spot. Spot loves it here, but he would LOVE to have a home with kids. Spot is very careful with small things. Spot and Moose are full brothers.
Last and least is Monty. Monty was acquired in Montana, hence his name. Monty is still a puppy and is very annoying. He likes to jump up and grab a hold of my shirt...it's like having an appendage. I think he thinks he's helping, he likes to be helpful but really he's just annoying. Herman has to yell at him often.
Everybody else thinks Monty is annoying as well.
Monty doesn't let anyone sleep - he's like a little tornado everywhere he goes.
So this is the pack! There used to be a seventh. Goldie (Moose and Spots mom) but she found a new home in Minnesota and she is very happy there. Good timing because she probably would have put an end to Monty.
I will answer the question, why all the dogs? Well, why not? Actually only the border collies were purchased. The rest are strays. We are very far away from roads and they have about 150 acres so this is a lot more workable for them than it would be for others. Everyone is fixed and is well cared for.
Today it's raining and that sucks. I know the rain is good for many things but it makes for wet dogs. I am also caring for horses, cows and cats. The horses and cows are the easiest. I hope none of the cats meet their fate with Monty...but they are pretty fast.
More to come later!
