Oh Minnie-soh-tah!

Today we are getting the "worst storm of the year" that is a quote from Kare 11 news, the only local news source I give half credit to. So far they are right. We are supposed to get 6-8 inches, the temperature is at 23 degrees F but it feels more like 12 degrees F with the wind.

Honolulu is 72 degrees F and sunny right now. Anchorage is also 23 degrees but it's sunny there so technically right now, they have better weather than us.

When I went into the gym, there was no snow. I came out of the gym, my car was covered and I couldn't brush it off fast enough! By the time I got to the next side the other was covered. C'est la vie - we Minnesotans can drive with a little bit of snow on our cars.
In fact I have to give credit to how tough we really are. The road conditions are white out on the highways right now and traffic was moving at a steady 30-40 miles an hour. Walking from the door of the gym to my car, I couldn't see. It hurt to open my eyes because snow would get in them.

If we were in Kansas City (like I was in a snow storm in December) traffic would be at about 5 miles an hour, everyone else would be in the ditch, school would be out until Monday and people would be rushing to the grocery store to stock up on canned goods.

Don't get me wrong, there will be plenty of people in the ditch today and rush hour will be a bear (unless everyone leaves work early - I've seen that happen too). But we get by pretty well. I think they are closing schools today but I bet the kids will be back tomorrow (sorry kids). I'm not sure what's for dinner yet so I may need to run to the store - although I'm going to try not to. Not because of driving, but because it's cold, and snow is wet, and I hate being cold and wet.

Not to mention our extreme weather changes, the last two days were in the 30's F and sunny and snow was melting everywhere. We are tough just for dealing with that.

And I have to of course think of the people who are doing outdoor chores in this weather. One might wonder why a person would do outdoor chores in this, but 365 days a year the animals need water, feed and exercise. Not to mention stalls cleaned if people have horses that stay in them.

Probably the tow truck guy, the plow guy, and the ambitious pizza delivery guy are thankful for this day. The rest of us, not so much.

This is the sort of day where people make comfort food for dinner, have a fire and watch tv with hot cocoa. Unfortunately, that will not be me because of my diet. While this storm has definitely put a wrench in my plans (I was going ride, teach a lesson and go out to dinner) it is not going to screw up my diet! I'm in the zone.
