Motivation

Motivation is such a funny thing. Over the years I’ve tried to harness what motivates me so I can use it when I want it. So far, I’ve been pretty successful. Basically, I’m motivated when I have too much to do. It is a delicate balance between having too much to do and really having too much to do.

Lately, I’ve just not had enough to do. When my only task for the day is to do my laundry, the laundry doesn’t get done. However, when I have to do laundry, clean my bathroom, meet with my tax guy, ride horses and I’m having dinner with a friend across town, I get all of it done and I even clean out my car.

Today I don’t have enough to do and yesterday I didn’t either. Actually this is a pretty regular pattern lately that is driving me crazy!

I took up cross country skiing. I’ve been riding for a cutting horse trainer. I’ve been doing a newsletter for a barn. I’ve been going to the gym. I started this blog.

This is not enough! These things do not fill a day!

So what happens when I don’t have enough to do? I get curious about odd things and odd things catch my eye.

Here are some things I’ve found out…

In Hungary, one way they castrate lambs is by biting off their testicles. As in the humans personally bite them off. I just saw this on television, “Animal Planet” to be exact.

People actually show cats. As in they bath them, groom them and take them to shows. Sometimes the cats have to demonstrate playfulness. But mostly they do nothing. Which makes sense, they are cats. Some people that do this have over 30 cats in their homes. Strangely enough, NONE of the cats I saw on this show were cute in any conventional way. In fact, I thought they were weird looking. So, people breed, house and show weird looking cats.

Here is a website dedicated to the husbandry, breeding and showing of gerbils. I am so lucky my family does not do this, the horse thing is weird enough, I’d never get a date as a gerbil trainer.

People like this crazy woman exist and are many! I don't think it's very devout to create your own followers. But, what do I know, I'm sure according to her I'm going to hell anyway.

There is an online forum for just about everything out there:

Hamster Owners - This forum has over 13,000 members!

Precious Moments figurines - That’s right, this company makes millions on these “treasures.” Why didn't I think of that?

French Bulldogs - These dogs are unable to breed naturally and that is what makes them so expensive = special. *rolls eyes*

Besides your banking, bill pay and networking, you can also “adopt” a virtual pet on the internet. Meaning you can have an internet pet. I think this is a great option for some people.

Pro Ana Mia - This is pretty sick, this is a forum for people who are anorexic and/or bulimic and want to stay that way. It gives tips and tricks on how to be anorexic and/or bulimic. It helps these people stay thin, lose their teeth, harm their kidneys and eventually die. I don’t recommend entering.

Anywho, someone said, “Busy hands are happy hands.” I’d have to agree with that.
