Was on my first shoot for work today.
This was is for a Do-It-Yourself series of videos and this segment is building your own outdoor fireplace. I think it's pretty cool, I get to learn while I work. I love learning how to do stuff.
My job is timecoding. This is for the editors. So I write down the time when segments start and/or at notable times during the shoot. It helps the editors go through what will be 48 hours worth of footage - to make a 30-40 minute video.
I have a whole new respect for people that make movies. I think of movies like Braveheart and Lord of the Rings - they must have been amazing to work on and put together! Not to mention the work involved.
The Director is hilarious - very experienced and creative. She was hired in freelance to do this project. She has also had a lot DIY production experience.
Favorite director quotes of the day:
Re: Looking at the camera when speaking instead of at tools for the project.
"Talk to Nate like he is a person." Poor Nate, he thought he was a person.
Re: Acting like the project requires some concentration while working and talking.
"Speak as if you were thinking." LOL I think that one would make a great bumper sticker!
She didn't mean any of it in a derogatory way.
I work with a great group so today was really fun. We are shooting again Thursday and Friday.
