For the last several days our temperatures have gon well into the 90's with high humidity. If you have livestock, this changes schedules considerably! For the last two days I have ridden EARLY morning because it simply isn't fair to anyone (cows, horses or people) to try to work in 95 degree Fahrenheit weather!
So, starting at 7:00am when the temp has been around 70 and ending by 10:00am when the temp is approaching 80, has been the way to go. Of course we northerners are much less tolerant to the heat than we are the cold. Just about everyone I know prefers cold to heat. I think this also includes our northern born animals. My personal horse thinks it's too hot to ride if the temp is over 70 - he is a cold weather guy.
In Minnesota, our sun is the hottest between 10am and 2pm. When I was working in Oklahoma, I was surprised to find out that the sun is the hottest later in the day - I believe it was 1pm to 5pm or somewhere in there.
I feel like somewhat of an oddity around here because I really enjoy the hot weather (of course this is not the only reason I feel odd, but it's one). Now, WORKING in the hot weather...like riding or stacking hay, I do not like. I went running the other day and I found it funny that I killed the cardio workout AND the sauna all at once. I thought that was pretty effecient, albeit hell.
TODAY we are getting reprieve from the heat. It's raining! It's been off and on all morning and we even did get a hard rain. I love the temp, it feels tropical and if I shut my eyes, I am back in Hawaii.
