This post is prompted partially by my crankiness from having an exhausting week of cat trapping, sober cabbing, exercising and horse loping. But it's also from my increasing annoyance at people who post ads about "adopting" and "rehoming" their pets and horses.
In my mind "adoption" is a term used when a person adopts a child, goes to a non-proft organization for a pet or where an organization adds ("adopts") new policies, procedures or what-have-you.
When someone breeds their dog and sells the puppies, this is not adopting. When someone gets a puppy, then decides the puppy is a lot of work and wants to sell said puppy, this is not adopting either. This is plain out selling an animal. Call it what it is.
Hamsters - these are creatures that live 2-4 years at the very most. To get a hamster and not be able to deal with it for that short period of time shows a severe lack of decision making and character, in my opinion. It's a HAMSTER - how hard is it to take care of a hamster? Can't be too hard, my parents took care of three hamster owning kids for years.
The owner probably has the same attention span and daily habits as the hamster. Sleep, pee, stuff face with food, store food, go nowhere on a wheel, sleep, pee. $30 to "adopt" a hamster? I may just have to email them and tell them they can pay me, I will come and pick it up for $30. Actually, no I won't.
Horses - my absolute biggest complaint with the hoopla that has occurred since TX and IL closed their slaughter plants is all these batshit people going to auctions, buying horses, selling them for more money and calling it "re-homing" and "adopting."
No, that's horse-trading. Call it what it is.
The reason the "rehoming" and "adopting" drives me nuts is that good people with good intentions see ads for these horses and think "well, I want to get a horse so I'll adopt a horse in need." Not quite the same hassle as cleaning up after a dog that isn't quite housetrained or retrieving a freaked out cat from under a car.
Off the soapbox and onto other random stuff:
I got the cat back from the vet this afternoon. She was pregnant as was one of the white ones. Wow, that was fast! They'd only been at it a week and these cats aren't even a year old yet.
I may step up my game a bit and try to be more proactive with more traps (sigh).
I also went off my diet yesterday and today. I'm feeling a little annoyed with myself but I'm tired, cranky and I just want to eat pizza. So I am.
By the way, a plug for Frankies Pizza in New Hope. The BEST pizza I have ever had. Fresh ingredients, great service, local owner that works behind the counter.
