Western Pleasure Horse Race

Yesterday I drove in from Canada straight to Hannah's next show. A little more competitive show - but not too bad. She showed in the WP 10 and under and Western Horsemanship 10 and under.

She was pretty confident from last week's wins, perhaps her head grew a little bit in size - as to be expected for a ten year old. We all have to learn sometime. :)

She had a little mishap in the beginning where she tried to mount her horse while he was tied to the trailer (bareback). She did this when no one was watching and then tried to cover her mistake. I think she scared her horse enough to scare herself. I didn't see it happen as I had not arrived yet and her mom didn't see it happen because she was registering Hannah for her classes.

The only reason I know is because Hannah told me. When I asked her if she was allowed to do that, she said, "I think so." When I asked her if we should ask her mom to be sure, she said, "Oh, I think I dreamt it. I actually didn't do it."

What a riot! Her next lesson will include a reminder of all kinds of horse safety.

Don't anyone get the wrong impression, she's a wonderful kid. Really, I just love her to pieces and it's fun watching her grow up.

She had a great pre-show practice in the ring.

Immediately before her class, we went to the warm up arena. Her oversized brain decided to completely ignore my instruction. She went to the farthest end of the arena - where I couldn't possibly call out to her - and started loping around, too fast. She likes to go fast.

We did stop her but the result was not placing in either of her classes. She knows that - it is her choice if she wants to show or not, try or not.

I was really proud of her attitude coming out of the ring. She didn't cry, didn't get mad and was still her same loving self towards her horse.

She tested the waters and pushed buttons yesterday - she thought she could mount up bareback by herself, she thought she could go in and win with her own ideas and at the end of the day she was happy (not discouraged) with what she learned.

So yesterday was a huge success in the way of learning! Honestly, in my opinion this is the stuff that makes good horse people.

Canada was great, I'll post on the clinic later - the clinic was a great success!
